Lucretia is a truly wonderful villain: she's a character that every young reader is going to love to hate. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone of 8+ who is looking for a hugely entertaining adventure, which along the way will leave you marvelling at the insect kingdom, on the edge of your seat with excitement on one page and howling with laughter a few pages later! Then again, it might be that he needs to know as much as he can before it’s left to him to find and face her ultimate ambition. I love the way that the author has developed all of her characters across the trilogy in the most believable manner. With the cinematic pratfalls of Humphrey and Pickering to lighten the drama and clear environmental theme, Beetle Queen, sequel to ‘ Beetle Boy‘ is a well-planned, carefully executed, pacy and exciting story. G. Leonard’s book Beetle Boywas one of the liveliest, most original and enjoyable debuts of 2016, and the follow up will have fans waving their (figurative) feelers around in glee. Author M G Leonard set herself a significant challenge when she started this book: her debut title – Beetle Boy received our top 5 star rating and went on to become an international best seller. I loved the way MG has developed the various friendships and the tensions between parents, children and, of course, beetles.

You don’t need to have an inordinate fondness for beetles to adore this book, but it is quite likely that you will develop one. Spires of earth jut through the fog and unknown avian creatures circle far peaks guarding their broods.

The American actress, Ruby Hisolo Junior, has arrived for her dress fitting,’ the French butler said through the door.

Leonard also introduces the mothers of both Bertolt and Virginia and gives them significant roles in the story’s development. When Darkus, Virginia and Bertolt discover further evidence of Lucretia Cutter’s evil, they are determined to stop her.

There's an interesting and exciting plot with a big dose of uncertainty about whose side Darkus's dad (Batholomew Cuttle) is really on. As the name of the book – and the plot summary above – suggest, Darkus and his friends are, however, forced to play second fiddle to our villainous 'Beetle Queen'. Merely being in the presence of the Queen gave the air a sickly sweet aroma, and Tharson reported light-headedness and trouble thinking clearly.Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse Fans of madcap adventures and anthropomorphised sidekicks will enjoy this fast-paced series opener.

There's also a moment of peril and pathos when Lucretia sends her henchmen to dispose of Darkus's Beetle Mountain. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic!

This second cover carries on the bold colours and delightful whimsy of the first with quirky interior illustrations by Karl James Mountford and beetle illustrations by Elisabet Portbella. This sequel, Beetle Queen, moves the adventure and friendships on, as the three children, Darkus, Virginia and Bertolt, try to work out what Lucretia is up to whilst fending off unwanted parents and saving and /or capturing beetles, aided by Uncle Max . Make use of area-of-effect attacks and items, as the Queen's summoned Beetle Guards can quickly gang up on the player if not dealt with.
