My only advice guys is only start it when you have a free day or a free few hours to devour it cos you won't wanna put this one down. I started off a bit complacent, feeling like I has a good idea where the story was going - even though I didn't remember the synopsis! However, the story is so intricately plotted and there are twists upon twists, which made for a dark, suspenseful read. Andrea flawlessly spins a web of mystery and ensnares you into a false sense of security, in which you think you have it all figured out, you know exactly who is to blame and then she violently rips the carpet right-out from under you.

I highly recommend Hide and Seek, I think along with The Sleeper Lies, it’s probably my favourite Andrea Mara so far. I for one had several moments within this book where I was left gasping for breath, with a tightness in my chest and a panicked pulse. I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what happened next as the gripping, clever plot twists and turns its way to a dramatic denouement. Very strong characters and a plot with enough points of difference from others in the genre meant I was gripped from start to finish. She isn’t afraid to delve into some very dark topics in her books and Hide and Seek is no exception. But whilst playing hide and seek in the garden with her daughter, she learns from a neighbour about the disappearance following a game of hide and seek thirty years earlier of three year old Lily who lived in what is now their house.

I loved the duel timeline aspect and the pacing was such that we learnt about the lead up to Lily's disappearance and Joanna's childhood at the same time. I found myself on the edge of my seat with Joanna’s anxiety and her fear about being responsible for Lily’s death. One which you quickly become fully invested in until it reaches the utter triumph of a conclusion that leaves you reeling in shock but still deeply satisfied. Andrea Mara is one of those authors who as soon as I hear she has a new book out I just have to drop everything and get stuck in.

From the moment I picked it up, I found it very hard to put this book down - it was everything I wanted from a thriller. I suspected everyone at one point or another, but could not have predicted the culprit or the situation around Lily's disappearance. Who could given it was so twisty and brilliant but I was ever so slightly on the right track but as to the finer details I was way off track and delighted this was the case. As soon as I finished Hide and Seek I messaged my daughter to tell her that she needed to come back to the “library of mum” and read Hide and Seek!

There were a lot of interesting characters but I did sometimes get confused over who was who but nevertheless it gives plenty of suspects to point the finger at. I was delighted to see that Andrea Mara had written a new book, given that the other three of hers that I've read have all been bangers. This story shows how entwined this community was back in the eighties, where everyone knew everyone, how rumours spread and ruined lives while the truth remains well hidden. Set in a Dublin suburb using two different timeliness, the story of missing child Lily Murphy unfolds. A smart, well-plotted, tense and suspenseful read with a cast of characters about whom you’ll find yourself constantly second-guessing.This blog hosts a selection of articles written from 2013 to the present, mostly focusing on my book reviews, which are uploaded frequently. Some of the characters are intriguing, they’re odd and eccentric and all play a part in unravelling the mystery of Lily Murphy and really add to creating a sense of community within the story. Her sense of contentment at finding their "forever home" soon subsides when a new neighbour tells her that her home once belonged to the family of Lily Murphy, a three-year-old who went missing in the mid-80s while playing a game of Hide and Seek.

When Joanna realises that Lily once lived there, she is immediately overcome with an awful sense of dread that she just can’t shift. She thinks she knows that happened to the little girl and if the truth comes out, her world will also be turned upside down.It is so cleverly plotted with many characters whose lives overlap, though its written so well its easy to keep up. This book really needs to come with a warning that you will not get any work done until you have finished it.
