They learn that several other young women have disappeared in the area over several years but how are they connected? Her two young children never let her rest, so one exhausting night, in the middle of a London heatwave, she escapes to a nearby park for some air. The story is told from Tim and Mary's perspectives with the occasional point of view from missing girl, Samantha. One night, both Mary and Tim look out to a house across from them, and witness violence through the window. They end up being partners who are trying to find out what they saw one night in an abandoned home in their neighborhood.

Neither are sleeping and when they run into each other in a park in the middle of the night, they both think they see a local girl who has been missing, in the abandon house nearby. Mary is on maternity leave from her job as an attorney and caring for her two young children with little help from her husband. I did find the story dragged a little bit but that could just been the incessant droning and whining of a demanding two year old I did not take a liking to one bit.Mind you, don't even get me started on husband, Jack (as in Hit the Road if Mary's got any sense - she hasn't). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I have liked other books from this author quite a bit more than this, so I look forward to her next one. Despite their unending tiredness, these neighbors both end up in a park near their homes at 4 AM peering up at a lit window of a home where they both believe they’ve seen a young woman, Samantha Ellis, recently reported missing in the news. is a slow burn thriller that does take a while to pick up pace but there is enough intrigue there to keep you turning the pages.

Together they team up to solve "who the fuck is that lady in the dilapidated house across the street". The storyline kept you guessing for the most part of the book, and the big twist was not what I expected at all. It’s far-fetched at best and was quite boring until the half-way point, where it picked up a little bit.

As I mentioned above, there are some very amusing scenes in this book, and I think it would have benefited if it just embraced the humorous aspects of what silly things the characters were doing here and there. These two are separately looking out the window one night and think they see something sinister occurring in one of the (abandoned) homes across the street. And as the pair are drawn into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, the culprit appears to be even closer to home than they thought.I was drawn into the lives of two primary characters, Mary and Tim, who have trouble sleeping at night and find themselves noticing odd happenings in the neighborhood.
