As stated, Interstellar already looked fabulous on Blu-ray, but that image was not without its faults, despite the mostly jaw-dropping results. Fleshtones are on the pallid side, while appearing predominantly lifelike, and falling in line with the film’s overall aesthetic. Set in the near future, crop blight has caused civilization to regress into a failing agrarian society. Hans Zimmer’s beautiful music score is a perfect mate for the spirit of the film as it is often blended with action sequences and sounds superb. Life on Cooper’s Farm (HD, 9:43) —Here’s where we discuss bringing Americana and the grounded nature of a farm to a sci-fi space movie by exploring the beauty of the farmhouse built in Calgary and its importance as a main character in the story.

So yes it doesn’t have an Atmos or DTS-X surround track, but that doesn’t mean this one doesn’t bleed into and make excellent use of those height channels. I don’t think Spielberg would ever let the science overshadow the story and most importantly, the characters, but I’ll exercise my right to digress again because I actually do want to get to all the geeky scientific stuff in this review too. The film might struggle in its third act but in an age of reboots, remarks and sequels, we should applaud original filmmaking. The only question I had unanswered was how early I would be able to partake in a screening of it before the general public. If you know anything about this film, then you probably already know at least something about its lengthy production history and how it’s been in development for quite some time, even in the very capable hands of Spielberg, and also formerly written by Jonathan Nolan (at least three drafts of it if memory serves me correct), but I digress.

Together with Physicist Kip Thorne who also served as the film’s Executive Producer, we learn some of the logistics in the film, the creative licenses (not) taken and get a crash course in Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. I know a lot of you are dumping on Nolan for not bringing this to the 4K UHD format with an Atmos one, but trust me there’s nothing wrong with what we have here. Nolan's visuals treat space as reverently and awe-inspiring as Terrance Malick's beautiful depictions of deep space during the Tree of Life. Ordinarily you would think this would be fairly noticeable and take you out of the game, but if you’re invested in the movie, chances are you will probably never even subconsciously notice unless you’re like me and you’re looking for them. Miniatures in Space – We’re shown the use of miniatures in the film with respect to the scale and so on.As they approach for docking the short bursts of the engines thrusters in the silence of outer space result in ostensible LFE thumps that sound and feel great. Interstellar, may not be the “prefect” film in the eyes of the critics, but lucky for me, with each and every subsequent viewing I partake in, the film just grows on me like untreated mold in a shower or unfortunately cancer.
